Nicola Palairet - Communications Director
Life is about making friends
As a young teen, Nicola witnessed the effects of poverty and greed first hand on the streets of Thailand, and has had a passion for the empowerment of women ever since. Nicola has spent the majority of her adult life living and working in a number of different countries around Asia. Nicola has three daughters and two sons, with three of her children living in Cambodia.
She has developed an initiative to up-skill and train illiterate migrant women, has lead training in the area of family and parenting, and has recently worked with a local New Zealand team among prostitutes. She has a background in English literature and Chinese language and literature but re-trained to become a Personal Trainer. Working with women in strength and fitness through exercise, creates community and confidence through connection.
At Flame Nicola heads up the communication team, keeping donors and supporters informed about the work of Flame, as well as raising her children. Her works leads her to meet new and interesting groups from around the world while promoting the work of Flame. While the work is hard she feels privileged to be a part of changing children’s lives.
Often when people visit us in Cambodia, they feel overwhelmed and ask, "What's the best way we can help these kids?"
And my answer is always - one kid at a time, through education.
